Admission to the society
Members are admitted by the Executive Board on the recommendation of the Membership Committee, on the basis of published work in an applied field and of a willingness to review. The society charges no membership fee and takes no share of conference revenue.
Member
Open to individuals who hold a doctorate or have published peer-reviewed work in an applied field. Members vote at the general assembly, may serve on committees, and are expected to review for at least one co-sponsored conference every two years.
Institutional Member
For departments and laboratories, not for companies. Up to five named representatives; observer status at the general assembly; the right to propose a conference for technical co-sponsorship.
Fellow
Awarded by the Board to members whose published work has changed practice in their field. Nomination requires two Fellows and a written case; the award carries no payment and no fee.
There is no membership fee. The society's running costs are met from the administrative charge on endorsed conferences, fixed in advance and published in the Bye-Laws.
